Very good crafting and great spell system. Artwork is beautiful but camera movement is old school pan only. POE is fun, it makes sense, it works, quests are not too difficult and the game can be made very hard in the options if you choose. If you like RGP gameplay both are excellent But be warned: the game is addictive as hell.īoth are good. If you're looking for a game that doesn't hold your hand, offers huge freedom and offers countless hours of fun go for D:OS. If you are a big fan of the old infinity games and would like to relive that experience with a new engine go for PoE. If you have to decide between the two I'd say the following: Also the look is less comic-ish as in D:OS. Combat can be paused but as others have said it remains a bit chaotic at times. It clearly inherits from games like Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale. PoE can best be described as an modern infinity engine game. The enhanced edition made the game even better adding the best controller support I've ever seen for an isometric RPG. Oh and the game lets you do whatever you want without pushing you in any direction. But D:OS is much more than just an RPG, it's a huge playground for you to experiment on. In short: D:OS has one of the best (if not THE best) combat mechanics I have ever seen in a game. Also the different elements play a significant role. D:OS is really turn based and much more interactive with the surroundings. I own and love both games - so I would recommend to play them both )īut I agree with the other posters: combat is one of the big differences between the two games. In my experience encounter in DOS take longer to resolve in playing time but last for less game-world time. PoE has abilities and spells limited by encounter and by *rest* (a mechanic inherited from the original AD&D games).ĭOS uses a cooldown mechanic which for results in most spells and abilities being useable once per encounter. It's quick and easy to use and managing the components you need is pretty easy.ĭOS has a vast crafting system, you will need to set aside significant game time to crafting and gathering the ingredients for crafting. PoE has a limited amount of crafting and some ability to upgrade (enchant) weapons and armour. In my opinion the turn based combat in DOS feels a bit too much like a puzzle to be solved.īoth games can drop you into *hopeless* fights (I'm ok with this) however it's easier to escape from them in DOS. I prefer the continuous combat in PoE, to me it seems more *realistic*. PoE has far fewer concealed quest items and the key ones are usually mentioned in a dialogue of quest log. PoE has a very strong Lore that is making more sense as I play the game (initially iy's a bit daiunting).ĭOS is pop-culture fantasy, fun but fairly light.ĭOS is something of a point-and-click adventure with hidden objects.
